The Bull&Terrier Rescue of Maryland is a project focusing on the rescue and
rehabilitation of pit bull dogs. We are
not a 501(c)(3), as we would prefer to avoid the
politics associated with more formal corporate entities. Accordingly, we are
self-funded and do not accept donations.

"Bull and Terrier" dogs were a cross between bull-baiting dogs and terriers such as
White English Terriers and Manchester Terriers. The resulting dogs were
selectively bred for numerous tasks including dog fighting, hunting, and animal
baiting. The "Bull and Terrier" was likely the progenitor to modern dogs such as the
Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, and the
American Pit Bull Terrier.

Today, the "Bull and Terrier" breeds are often categorized as pit bull dogs by the
media and legislators seeking to impose breed specific legislation. Our mission is to
rescue pit bull dogs in need, rehabilitate them, and adopt them out to responsible
families so that they can serve as breed ambassadors.

We rescue one dog at a time from a local shelter and prepare that dog for its new life
as a family companion. We perform a behavioral assessment before taking a dog into
our system. Thereafter, each dog is trained and Canine Good Citizen certified prior to
being advertised for adoption. Our adoptable dogs are socialized and tested with people
and our personal animals. These are great animals which will help redefine the pit bull
dog.
